HTML 5 is also known
as web application 1.0, and it was introduced by WHATWG. WHATWG was a community

technology.
Then there is also Web Applications 1 also known as WA1. WA1 is able to
update HTML 5 as well as XHTML 1.0. However, HTML 4 was based on SGML
whereas HTML 5 is more compatible to different browsers. XHTML 2 is also
suffering from same scenario as it does not have support from major browsers, on
the other hand, HTML 5 exhibit support from all browsers apart from Microsoft.

and web developers:
For web developers support of browser for particular
technology is important issue. XHTML2 lacks support from the most known browser
of Internet Explorer as it faces several problems with a browser like handling
of character encoding, content handling, externally integrated content and many
more. This make using XHTML 2 more difficult. Likewise, conversion of previous
version documents to XHTML 2 documents is also not an easy process. This
restricts the use of XHTML2.
HTML5
and web developers:
In case of HTML 5, it is supported by the large number
of browsers. Furthermore, a conversion on HTML 4.01 documents to HTML 5
documents is also convenient and all you need to do is alter DOCTYPE
declaration. HTML 5 offers convenient conversion of authoring tools as
well as a content management system. Also latest features of HTML 5 can also be
supported by Java Script of browsers do not support such elements.
Future of the web:
Although XHTML 2 is improved
version of XHTML 1.0, however, due to its lack of compatibility, it may not
reside for long time. Contrary to this HTML5 is already making its way to the
world of web. If, HTML 5 developments
are supported by Microsoft than it surely will take the web in the go. Various
elements of HTML 5 are already completed and ready to be implemented thus, it
seems to be that from HTML 5 and XHTML 2, the future of the web is HTML 5.
